Month 1- June 2013
I began my journey with Hajoca about a month ago here in Orlando, FL. So far, I have learned so many different things and the people here are amazing! Over the course of the past few weeks I have been receiving freight shipments, picking customer orders, operating the forklifts, and riding along with our drivers. I’ve also had the opportunity to assist in 2 inventories for other stores in my area.
My first 2 weeks I spent primarily in the receiving department. Here I learned everything from how to operate the forklifts and break down pallets to picking and verifying customer orders. Since the inventory is so large in this warehouse, we have products on shelves that are around 20 feet high. I got over my fear of heights pretty quickly!
Over the course of the last few weeks I was able to do some deliveries with our drivers. I got to interact with our customers face-to-face and see how the products we sell are utilized. Doing deliveries out at Disney World, Universal theme parks, and SeaWorld were definitely exciting. These places are filled with millions of tourists during the summertime, so you can only imagine the traffic!
My biggest challenge when I started was learning the products and navigating my way around the warehouse. It’s only been a month and I feel right at home already and the product knowledge is coming more quickly than I anticipated. This PC is definitely a huge operation to run and the people here make it flow so smoothly. The warehouse is around 40,000 sq. ft. and stores thousands of different plumbing products.
My mentor, Ron Miller, is the Profit Center Manager here in Orlando. He’s been so supportive and has taken a deep interest in my success with Hajoca since day one. Everyone here at the PC works hard for him and respects his decisions. He’s also a decent golfer and soccer player, so we get along just great! I can’t wait to see what else this journey has in store for me. Every day has been so rewarding.
