June 2014
It is hard to blog about work stuff for the month of June because there have been so many fun summer activities! I would much rather talk about the cookouts, baseball games, and laying by the pool that I have been doing. But, since this is not really the place for that I suppose, I will talk about work. This month has been interesting because obviously a lot of people take vacation in June. At Hajoca, each profit center runs lean to keep overhead costs low, so that means when a person goes on vacation, everybody else has to pick up the slack. I consider this a refresher course on the training I already had. It never hurts to go back and revisit some of the foundations such as warehouse and counter. In addition to that, I have dived a little deeper into the operations phase of my training.
Business has picked up lately since a lot of new construction breaks ground in spring and summer, so it has been a busy time here in the profit center and a great time to learn about the beginning phases of a project. Since I started in September, there are several aspects of this work I hadn’t seen yet. In the fall and winter most of our customers are making plans for spring and wrapping up the summer projects they already had in the works. Winter is a time for repair and maintenance business. Spring and summer are more interesting and more busy. At least that has been my takeaway from Kingsport. I am sure other profit centers (especially in different climates) have their own flow of business, and that is the beauty of each profit center operating autonomously.
I was scheduled to observe an inventory of a new location at the end of the month, but due to other circumstances, the inventory was moved to a later date, so no trips for me this month.
