Month 2- July 2013
This month was filled with a lot of travelling and networking with professionals from across the country. During the second week in July, I was able to attend our FL Regional Profit Center Managers’ Conference. This was a 2-day conference and consisted of vendor presentations, review of regional goals, best practices, and discussion on ways to improve profit center performance in certain areas. I had the opportunity of meeting with profit center managers from all across the state of Florida and gained more insight into what their jobs entail.
After attending the Regional Meeting, I was on my way to Houston, TX for training on our new computer software. This training was specifically tailored for Management Trainees from across the country. There I was able to network with my fellow Management Development Program trainees and also enjoyed some great food! I probably had the best steak of my life while I was there 🙂
Once I returned from my training in Texas, I found myself once again on a plane, but this time over 1,000 miles from home. My mentor arranged the opportunity for me to travel to Kohler, Wisconsin to learn how Kohler products are manufactured. I was there for a week and had the chance to interact with some key Kohler representatives. Kohler is the biggest manufacturer of bathtubs, sinks, faucets, and toilets in the U.S. I was able to participate in a 4 hour factory tour of the facilities and saw how all of their products are made. We also got to learn about the history of the company and had an inside look into some products that haven’t been released yet. This experience was a blast! I also did a little bit of fishing on Lake Michigan; can someone say 15lb salmon?
